Just writing to you about my experience with my recent purchase of our 2 bikes with some extra bits from your Albany branch in November 2020. Kirk did the transaction and was fantastic. He informed me in advance that there will be delays due to stock shortage which is fair.
On Black Friday which was a couple of days later the same bike was advertised $200.00 cheaper and after 200 attempts of calls someone picked up the phone and I mentioned the scenario that you should do a price match and first the lady said she cant… and after I mentioned that I will cancel the order she spoke to the manager and said yes you would do that and she will put notes in the system.
Last week I got a call from Kirk and was informed that bikes were finally ready to be picked up. We were delighted. My wife along with my 3 year old son went to pick up the bikes yesterday (Sunday 24/01/2021). Now here is the twist…
…After looking everywhere high and low. One bike was missing, we don’t have it the blonde lady says.. 3 sales people looking everywhere. Blonde sales girl…. Are you sure we gave you a call???? An hour later, my wife asks do you know what are you looking for??? Blonde lady… Of course a Toddler bike… On which my wife says… That was picked up 3 months ago.. I’m looking for the classique and wife barges into your back room where the bike was nicely packed up… ready to be picked up…
Do you guys not know how to read dockets or notes?? Or just want your wages/ salaries and just (beep) around with customers??
Part 2…The $200 that was supposed to be matched and I was mentioned that it was noted in the system. I told my wife, don’t worry about the refund, just pick up helmets etc…against the money… Well the notes had vanished and the Blonde lady says Oh.. Its not there, you can come back and sort it with Kirk.. By this time it was coming to a boiling point and we had enough…and we left with the stuff..
Part 3… As mentioned the Blonde sales girl, doesn’t read notes or dockets… She didn’t give her the JoeBlow floor pump which I paid for, so have to come back to pick it up..
Sorry to say but this has been my worst experience with Torpedo, Blonde lady… you must be related to the manager that you still have a job. Sorry but she is rude and obnoxious…
Kirk you have been great and helpful and also the other dude who helped my wife… But the BLONDIE takes the cake and icing in customer service…
Thanks for such a irritating and an annoying service… I know I will not get a reply and you may not do anything about it…I know you will not be richer with that $200 and I wont be poorer.. But IT’S THE ETHICS..but please atleast you could give me the floor pump .. That’s the least you could do..
We booked my sons bike in for a service at Torpedo7 Westgate only to be phoned and rudely told that they wouldn't preform a simple service because it needed $1600 worth or repairs!!!! their mechanic said there were noises etc it doesn't have an engine! We were told we may as well buy a new bike. Are you doing this to just get people to purchase new bikes from your store? This is still a great bike and it only needed the breaks and pads fixing. I took it to a competitor and had the repairs done for $84.00! after seeing all the bad reviews i think Torpedo7 needs a shake up. I won't ever be returning or purchasing again this comes after having other purchases in the past that needed to be returned because they didn't work or were broken.

A few years ago Torpedo7 had little gas cannisters on special. So I bought like 10 of them. The first time I used one was during a stay in a DOC hut after a day of tramping. The thing worked fine until I removed the burner from the cannister at which point the cannister leaked gas. It was so bad that I had to throw the cannisters outside or the hut would have filled with gas. The next morning the cannister was empty. This is supposed to be a self sealing cannister! I assumed that somehow I got a dud and forgot all about it.
Last week I was on holiday and my big 9kg cylinder ran out of gas so I used another Torpedo7 cannister that I brought as backup. Again it worked fine until I unscrewed the burner from it: it again started leaking! So this was the second Torpedo7 branded cannister that leaked gas. VERY dangerous if you don't notice and just leave the leaking cannister in the car, or tent.
Since I now twice had the same problem with a Torpedo7 cannister I decided to go to Torpedo7 and warn them of their dangerous cannisters. They appreciated me informing them and told me they weren't selling them anymore "perhaps because more people reported that problem". I asked them if, since I had to throw away a couple of cannisters away already and still have a bunch of unused ones if I could swap them for a other ones they have in stock. I was promised they would look into it and call be back.
I just received the call. Because I purchased them 4 years ago they were outside of warranty so they were unwilling to replace them. I explained that I just had the cannisters sitting in the garage unused waiting till the day I needed them so that despite their warranty of 12 months they just should still be good and they simply sold dangerous cannisters but that didn't matter.
I told them I was disappointed that swapping my remaining unused Torpedo7 cannisters for some new ones from another brand was not something they were willing to do because the cost to them is very low (about 8 times wholesale price for a cannister, make that say $40 max) and would do them less harm than this review does to them and the Torpedo7 cannisters do to people.
So I will not be buying stuff at Torpedo7 anymore. I am a club member, have bought lots of stuff there (all in their system) but for $40 they would rather lose me as a customer.
Because of this: 1 star.
Treat your customers with respect, Torpedo7! If a customer comes to warn you about faulty leaking dangerous gas cannisters you should apologise and offer a refund or swap. You didn't. You lost a customer.

Purchased a bike for myself 2 years ago. Purchase went smoothly and bike has met my expectations.
Based on this experience we just purchased 2 more bikes for the kids.
Bike Mechanic from the Manukau store was knowledgeable, provided good advice, good attention to detail and adjusted the 2x bikes to suit my kids on the spot.
Also got them for a great price.
Happy kids, happy parents. :)
Bad after sales experience. Bought an elliptical, picked up in store, and at home found out there were 2 right steps instead of a left and right. I thought this would be very easy to rectify, but this was so frustrating and complicated. Had to both email customer service & call the store multiple times. Very hard to get in touch with the store as the phone is not always answered.
In the end it was resolved, but what should have been just a single email, resulted in about ~20 emails, 10 phone calls and a couple of text messages.
Yet another example of overcharging- maybe the 4th or 5th I’ve experienced. Went to buy the three packs of Back Country food for $35 offer and was just about to pay when I noticed they were charging full price. They put it down to some of the choices being wrongly coded as single serves, but how many other people have been ripped off without noticing?
Be AWARE of how Torpedo 7 advertises their Sales as can be misleading.Clearance 60 % off headlines in email but actually its 40 %to 60 % .(Perhaps it should have read UP to 60% off). Check before you decide to go into store as the stock that they advertise as instore could well not even be there.(Packed away in my case )Very disappointed with the online customer service support and advertising although the staff instore where very nice. Common T7 in today's environment you have to do better than this.
Surely you know how to advertise with integrity!
I fell in love with a pair of fully waterproof and very expensive Sorel boots and was really pleased that Torpedo7 had them in my size. They arrived speedily and I was over the moon - for a month. At that point, I found that the soles had completely worn out at the heel and contacted the seller, expecting a refund. What I got was an explanation that these shoes were only to be used in the snow, and that because Sorel suspected that this had not been the case, they would not honour the warranty and hence there was nothing that Torpedo7 could do. I might add that there was no mention whatsoever of these shoes only being for use in the snow on the Torpedo7 website. They were said to be for casual use and "best for light rain". Given that we are in NZ where there is practically never any snow, I find it deeply irresponsible to sell these to people without warning, not to mention deeply dishonest to not give me a refund when they fell apart in less than a month.
Had a very similar experience as many others here. Made a click & collect order. It took a few days to be ready which is fine. Went to pick it up (berbell set) and got 4 boxes. Made sure that I should be getting 4 boxes and they were sure. Came back home to notice that something was missing. Contact them and yes, I should have gotten 5 boxes and according to tracking they all had arrived at the local store. Have been in touch twice with them in 2 weeks and gotten the same information (above) but no one can apparently can actually call the store and chase it up. Nor can they give me a number to call the store.
What's also ridiculous is the fact that I chose click & collect since delivery would have cost $70 extra. And once I picked them up, I saw on the boxes that they were delivered from Hamilton to this Auckland with NZ post overnight express. If they posted them anyway, why on earth couldn't they send them directly to me without that $70 extra....
Was the first time I bought something from Torpedo7 and won't be going back. I will keep on chasing the missing box until I get it but that's it. In fact, was happy to have bought a bike today that I probably would have bought there if the service had been good but now shopped elsewhere. Bad businesses don't deserve the business.
Bought my mountain bike from these guys. Friendly staff and love the bike ????
Will purchase my husbands bike from here soon
Bought a mountain bike before the lockdown in CHCH, trying to get my free service as the forks are leaking and gears slipping. No one answers the phone or email. Location finder on their web site doesn't even match their actual address.Take your business elsewhere!
